Spearfish Sport Climbing Camp
JUNE 24 - JULY 1 / AGES 13-18 / $950
The Spearfish Canyon trip is a sampling of northern Black Hills sport climbing around Spearfish, South Dakota. This canyon is the location of some of the most beautiful limestone walls in the West, minus the crowds that may be found elsewhere. The type of climbing varies from vertical to slightly overhanging blue and tan limestone, full of pockets, edges and crimps. The trip will have a wide emphasis on climbing technique, rope work, gear usage, and safety. It is a great opportunity for a climber to transition from climbing plastic indoors to rock outside, but is also appropriate for climbers who have had real rock experience and want to broaden their horizons and climb harder grades.
For the Spearfish sport climbing trip, we will be camping at a Forest Service campground up Spearfish Canyon. This location will have water, toilets, and picnic tables for cooking. The city of Spearfish is a short drive from the campground, we will visit town on a rest day for the opportunity to shower and swim in the public pool. A visit to the ice cream shop has become a time-honored favorite activity for our climbers when visiting Spearfish.
